I finally saw Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End yesterday. How was it? Let’s see…
At World’s End was a lot better than the mediocre Dead Man’s Chest, but still not as good as Curse of the Black Pearl (which is way better). I’m disappointed that neither of the sequels have matched the original overall. The first Pirates film was amazing, but the two sequels don’t even come close.
I think that the latest two POTC films don’t exactly fit with the original, anyway. They lack…something. It’s the same producer, writers, and director…so that can’t be the problem. Disney made everything darker and went off in an odd direction. The characters, as well, seem less strong in Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End. What happened?
Sure, they’re more action-packed than the first, but they seem to lack some important things.
Back to At World’s End (A.W.E.), it’s not a bad movie. There’s plenty of action, good special effects, interesting storyline, etc. What’s the major problem? It builds off the storyline of Dead Man’s Chest. I think it’s a lot better than it’s predecessor, yet nowhere near the original.
Oh, well. Watch it and decide for yourself.

At World’s End, the third movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, was released yesterday. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen it yet.
In the meantime, you can view some movie clips.
Yahoo Movies has a new clip up about the Maelstrom Sequence, and some other clips as well. Personally, I like the Competing Captains clip.

A lot of you have probably heard of Netflix. They mail you a movie, you watch it and return it, and they send you a new one. It’s a pretty good service. Some of the discs can be scratched (often not as bad as Blockbuster’s), but most computers can play scratched discs fine. I just run a cable from my video card to the TV. The sound comes from my computer’s speakers, but that’s okay since their better than the ones built into the TV.
Now that I’ve finished ranting about Netflix, it’s time for the important part of the article.
Recently I found a useful Netflix-related site. It’s called the Netflix Fee Calculator. Just answer it’s questions and it spits out some useful information. You get how much you’re paying per DVD and the maximum amount of DVDs you can get in a month. Cool or what? My advice: Watch the movie as soon as you get it and then run to the post office right after.

Johnny Depp recently stated that he would like to continue acting in Pirates of the Caribbean films until the end of his acting career. Unfortunately that probably won’t be possible.
Disney–so far– hasn’t seemed interested in making any more Pirates movies after the upcoming At World’s End, most unfortunately. That could change you know.
“If they wanted to do Pirates 7, why not? There are new layers to Jack and situations that he can’t just talk his way out of, so it would be good to keep exploring the character,” said Jonny Depp.
I agree, there should be a Pirates 7. I’m sure Disney could be convinced as well. After all, More Pirates of the Caribbean films = More $$$ for Disney. Right?

There’s quite a bit of a commotion going on among Harry Potter fans. There are two posters for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie (normal, and IMAX).
It turns out that the IMAX people….adjusted the photo of Emma Watson (the actress who plays Hermione) on the IMAX version of the poster. Take a look at the animation to the left (created by a LiveJournal user). Big difference, right?
Did they really think no one would notice the differences between the two photos?
Anyway, enraged Harry Potter fans are talking about it all over the web. In PotterCast Episode #87, there was an interesting discussion about it. Everyone seems to want a comment from Emma Watson. You do have to wonder…what does she think?
EDIT: Melissa Anelli, webmistress of The Leaky Cauldron (one of the two largest Harry Potter sites), has authored a huge rant about this. It’s worth reading.

It’s not much longer. May 25th is coming up soon.
That’s right, Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End is coming out soon. We’ve got a trailer, a general plot synopsis, and some still images. IMDB has them all.
In Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (POTC3), Barbossa, Will, and Elizabeth sail to the edge of the world to get Jack Sp Captain Jack Sparrow back. Soon after, they must fight Lord Beckett of the East India Trading Company and Davy Jones. Beckett has the Heart of Davy Jones, remember? Unable to do it alone, they bring together the great Pirate Lords from the four corners of the world. Grab your cutlass and get ready.
Will POTC3 be the highest-grossing movie this year, as it’s predecessor did? Who knows, it looks like it will be a better movie than Dead Man’s Chest. Personally, I didn’t think Dead Man’s Chest was anywhere near as good of a movie as the first film. Judging by the trailer, At World’s End will be a much better film. The trailer is available here if you wish to watch it (why wouldn’t you?).

The best of the Harry Potter films will soon be in theaters. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the 5th Harry Potter movie, will hit theaters July 13, 2007. Don’t even think “not another Harry Potter movie”! The Harry Potter series is much better in book format (if you haven’t read all of them, you have no right to make any judgment about them). After seeing tons of promotional images, and the trailer, I’m totally convinced that this is the best of all the Harry Potter movies so far. It makes sense, seeing that the fifth and third are the best of the books.
The special effects look good so far, but it’s hard to tell about the camerawork with only the trailers to go off. This series has gotten better with each movie, so again I’m not surprised about how good it looks.
The director, David Yates, is expected to direct the sixth movie as well. There will be seven Harry Potter movies, one of each book.
