Don’t Like Leopard’s Transparent Menubar?

There have been quite a few people who don’t like Mac OS 10.5 Leopard’s new menu bar. It’s nearly invisible and….Vista like. The dock’s a bit odd too.

No one knows if Apple will include settings to disable the interface “improvements” in the final product. Even if they don’t, I’ve got a hack for the menu bar (not sure what to do about the dock, though).

To make the menu bar “un-transparent”, open up your desktop background in Photoshop. Draw a horizontal white stripe at the top of the image, trying to make it the size of the menu bar. It helps if you have some sort of way to measure the menubar (you could judge the size in relation to the cursor). Save the background image (use “Save As…”, don’t replace the original!). If all goes well, the white stripe, behind the menu bar, should counter the invisibleness.
